Primary Objectives of This Position
Plans, directs, administers and leads the activities of employees within the Engineering Department in a manner which ensures effective project execution and optimizes profit and volume growth for the organization consistent with the mission, policies and goals of Aspect Automation.
Major Areas of Accountability
Technical Leadership
- Participates with project team to evaluate concept development, mechanical and controls design feasibility and to develop formal quotes and cost estimates.
- Provides technical consultation to Engineers on design specifications, project progress, project communications and project execution in support of the Principal Engineer.
Supervision
- Identifies staffing needs and manages outside resources as appropriate.
- Leads employee development efforts to insure professional and personal growth and to insure that the technical skills of employees keep pace with the requirements of the business.
- Evaluates the performance of assigned employees and conducts or assures that performance reviews and salary actions are conducted as scheduled.
- Participates in decisions relating to the selection, promotion, transfer, corrective action and development of employees within the Engineering department.
- Builds cooperation and participation amongst individuals, teams, and across functions.
Inspires teamwork to achieve optimum results.
Business Support/Development
- Participates in ongoing sales activities.
- Keeps current with new technologies and new ideas in the industry.
- Identifies, justifies and implements new engineering methods and technologies.
- Executes the strategic plan goals and objectives for the Operations department.
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and at least 8 years of relevant work experience.
- Minimum of two years of experience directing/supervising technical teams and engineers
- Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
- Problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level.
- Strong customer orientation.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Past experience in budget preparation, implementing cost reductions and utilizing outside contract services.
- Computer literate. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Past experience interfacing with customers and working knowledge of the proposal and estimating process.
- Must be able to travel (including air travel) with overnight stays.
